Troubleshooting your Calls
Coverage and weak signal
If your phone has a weak signal, you may not be able to connect a call, and if you can, it may result in poor audio call quality or even dropped calls. It happens from time-to-time – variables like buildings, thick walls, tall trees, or even large crowds of people can impact the reception your phone gets.
Billing
If you’re trying to make international calls and just can’t get through, you may have reached the limit for that destination. Check out our international calling destinations here, along with the minutes that come with each location. When you dial an international number, you’ll hear a short recording telling you how many minutes you have left – or if you’ve reached the limit – for countries that have a calling limit. Reached the limit? We understand, it’s great catching up with friends and family from all over. Your international calling minutes refresh when your subscription renews. In the meantime, you’ll still be able to call with other data-based services like WhatsApp, or FaceTime.
Lost all service, not just calling? It might just be your subscription. Double-check that your payment method is up-to-date and valid by logging into MyAccount, or download the SmartLess Mobile app.
VoLTE and phone settings
For today’s advanced networks, VoLTE – which stands for Voice over LTE – allows your phone to make voice calls when connected to 4G LTE or 5G. If it’s disabled, you might not be able to make calls.

Heads up: Some newer phones (from 2020-onward) from Apple, Samsung, Motorola, and Google may have VoLTE enabled by default, and may not show the toggle at all. If you don’t see a VoLTE setting, just make sure 5G is turned on. If it is, chances are you’re good to go. For more information on VoLTE technology, check out our article all about Voice over LTE.
Default Voice Line
If you have multiple plans or numbers on your phone, managing their different capabilities can get complicated. Having the wrong default number selected for calling might mean that you’re using a different number to make calls. You can check it by following the steps below.
