Voice over LTE (VoLTE)
At SmartLess Mobile, we’re all about keeping you connected—loud and clear. One of the best ways we do that is through VoLTE, or Voice over LTE. If you’ve ever wondered what VoLTE is or how to turn it on, you’re in the right place.
What Is VoLTE?
VoLTE stands for Voice over Long-Term Evolution. It’s a technology that allows your phone to make voice calls over the 4G LTE network instead of older 2G or 3G networks.
That means:
-
Clearer voice quality
-
Faster call connection times
-
The ability to talk and use data at the same time
-
Support for emergency calling features
If your phone doesn’t support VoLTE—or it’s not turned on—you won't be able to make or receive calls, even emergency calls.
Do I have VoLTE, and how do I turn it on?
Most modern phones (2018 or newer) support VoLTE by default. Some devices even have it turned on automatically and don’t show a toggle for it. But if you’re using an older phone or just want to double-check, here’s how
iPhone (iOS 13 and newer)
-
Go to Settings
-
Tap Cellular
-
Select your phone number under SIMs
-
Tap Voice & Data
-
Choose 5G Auto/On. If you don’t have a 5G option, choose LTE instead
Android (may vary by device)
-
Go to Settings
-
Tap Connections or Network & Internet
-
Select your phone number under SIMs
-
Tap Preferred network type or Network Mode
-
Choose 5G. If you don’t have a 5G option, choose LTE instead
Can’t make or receive calls?
Some phones don’t show a VoLTE option but still support it in the background. If you’re unable to make or receive calls, try these steps:
-
Check if your phone is compatible with VoLTE - Check device compatibility
-
Update your device software to the latest version
-
Restart your phone
-
Can’t connect to a network? Make sure your phone is carrier unlocked
