Troubleshooting your calls

If you’re having trouble making or receiving calls, a few quick checks can usually get things back on track.

Coverage and weak signal

Weak signal can cause calls to drop, fail to connect, or have unclear audio quality. This can happen from time to time and is often influenced by things like:

  • Tall buildings or thick walls

  • Dense trees or terrain

  • Large crowds or busy public areas

If possible, try moving to a more open area or closer to a window and test your call again.

Check billing and international calling

International calls

If you’re trying to place an international call and it won’t go through, you may have reached the calling limit for that destination.

  • When dialing an international number, you’ll hear a short recording letting you know how many minutes remain—or if the limit has been reached

International calling minutes refresh when your subscription renews. In the meantime, you can still stay connected using data-based services like WhatsApp or FaceTime.

Lost all service (not just calls)?

If calls, texts, and data aren’t working, the issue may be related to your subscription renewal. Log in to MyAccount or open the SmartLess Mobile app to confirm your payment method is valid and up to date.

VoLTE and phone settings

VoLTE (Voice over LTE) allows your phone to make calls over 4G LTE or 5G networks. If it’s turned off, calling may not work properly.

Using iPhone

  1. Open Settings

  1. Tap Cellular

  1. Select your number under SIMs

  1. Tap Voice & Data

  1. Make sure VoLTE is turned on and 5G Auto is selected

Using Android

  1. Open Settings

  1. Tap Network & Internet (or Connections

  1. Select your SmartLess Mobile line

  1. Tap VoLTE

  1. Make sure VoLTE is turned on

Note: Steps may vary slightly depending on your Android device and software version. Use the Settings search bar if you don’t see these options.

Heads up:

Some newer phones (2020 and newer from Apple, Samsung, Google, and Motorola) may have VoLTE enabled by default and won’t show a toggle. If you don’t see a VoLTE setting, just make sure 5G is turned on.
