Unlocking your phone
To use your phone with SmartLess Mobile, it must be unlocked. An unlocked phone can work on any carrier, instead of being restricted to the one it was originally purchased from. If your phone is locked, don’t worry, unlocking it is usually quick and straightforward through your previous carrier.
How to check if your phone is unlocked
Phones purchased directly from manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, or Google are typically unlocked. Devices purchased from mobile carriers may still be locked to that carrier’s network, so it’s best to check before activating or inserting your SmartLess Mobile SIM.
For iPhones
-
Go to Settings
-
Tap General
-
Select About
-
Scroll down to Carrier Lock
If it shows No SIM restrictions, your iPhone is unlocked.
If it shows anything else, it may still be locked to another carrier.
For Android phones
Android devices vary by manufacturer and model, so steps may differ. You can try the following:
-
Search online for “[your phone model] check if unlocked” and follow the instructions for your device
-
Contact your previous carrier to confirm whether the phone is unlocked
Common errors if your phone is locked
You might see messages such as:
-
“SIM not supported”
-
“Invalid SIM”
-
“No service”
These messages usually indicate the phone is still locked to another carrier.
What to do if your phone is locked
-
Confirm your device is compatible with SmartLess Mobile
-
Check the lock status using the steps above
-
If your phone is locked, contact your previous carrier to request an unlock
SmartLess Mobile cannot unlock devices locked to other carriers.
Most carriers will unlock a device if:
-
The phone is fully paid off
-
The account is in good standing
-
The device has been active on their network for a minimum period (often 30–60 days)
Once unlocked, your phone will be ready to use with SmartLess Mobile.
