Troubleshooting your Data

Check your data settings

Life moves fast—it’s easy to tap something by accident. If you can’t get online, the first thing to check is whether Cellular Data is actually toggled on.

iPhone

  1. Settings
  1. Cellular
  1. Make sure Cellular Data is ON Or, if you’re using two phone numbers on your phone, make sure the one that’s selected has a plan that comes with data

You can also check per-app settings under Settings>Apps> [Name of app}>Cellular Data switched to On

Android (steps may differ by manufacturer)

  1. Settings
  1. Connections/Network
  1. Make sure Data is ON

Reset APN Settings

Your APN (Access Point Name) settings help your phone connect to mobile data. If they’re missing or incorrect, your data connection might not work at all. Resetting your APN won’t affect your saved WiFi networks or Bluetooth connections—it just restores your data settings to the SmartLess Mobile defaults.

iPhone

  1. Settings
  1. Cellular
  1. Choose your number in the SIMs section
  1. Cellular Data Network
  1. Reset Settings

Android (steps may differ by manufacturer)

  1. Settings
  1. Connections/Network
  1. Mobile Networks
  1. Access Point Names
  1. Reset to default

Tried all of the above? How about a good ol’ fashioned restart? Hey, it often works!

Check your plan

If your calls and texts are working, but you can’t access the internet, there’s a chance you’ve hit your data limit.

Log in to MyAccount or open the SmartLess Mobile app to view your current usage. If you’re out of data:

  • Add a one-time data add-on to tide you over
  • Or consider upgrading your plan if this happens often

Slow data? Let’s check your network mode

Sometimes your phone is working fine—it’s just on a slower connection. Make sure you're set to connect to the fastest available network (like 5G or LTE).

iPhone

  1. Settings
  1. Cellular
  1. Choose your number in the SIMs section
  1. Voice & Data
  1. Select 5G Auto, 5G On, or LTE (we recommend 5G Auto)
  • Note: Connecting to 5G may increase battery consumption

Top tip: While you’re here, go ahead and make sure VoLTE is enabled, if you see the option!

Android

  1. Settings
  1. Connections/Network
  1. Mobile Networks
  1. Network mode
  1. Ensure 5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) or LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) is selected
  • Note: Connecting to 5G may increase battery consumption

Weak signal or network congestion?

Covered all the above and still seeing slower speeds? You might be in an area with a weaker signal—take a quick look at your signal bars. If you’re in a busy place like a concert, stadium, or during rush hour, a slight dip in performance can happen. It usually clears up on its own once things quiet down.
