Transferring your number to SmartLess Mobile

Want to keep your current phone number? You can bring it with you when you join SmartLess Mobile. This process is called a number transfer (or porting), and we’ll guide you through it. 

What you’ll need 

Before starting your transfer, make sure you have the following: 

  • Your current phone number (must be active with your current carrier) 

  • Your account number from your current carrier 

  • Your Number Transfer PIN (sometimes called a “port-out PIN”) 

  • The billing address associated with your current carrier account 

  • Your SmartLess Mobile login (email and password) 

  • Access to verification codes (sent by email or SMS) 

  • A smartphone, tablet, or desktop device 

  • WiFi or mobile data connection 

You can also use our Number Transfer Check Tool to confirm whether your number is eligible. Most U.S. phone numbers can be transferred to SmartLess Mobile. 

When to transfer your number  

If you're planning to transfer your number, it’s important to know that you’ll need to do this during activation of your SmartLess Mobile plan. Once activation is complete, you won’t be able to transfer a number later—so be sure to select this option when you activate. 


How to transfer (port) your number 

Step 1: Choose your SmartLess Mobile plan  

Select the plan that works best for you. 

  • If you selected an eSIM, you can activate right away.  

  • If you order a SIM kit, you’ll activate it once it’s delivered to you by UPS. 

Step 2: Activate your plan and select “Transfer my number” 

During activation, choose Transfer my number, then enter the following details from your current carrier: 

  • Phone number (must still be active) 

  • Number Transfer PIN (port-out PIN) 

  • Account number 

  • Billing address associated with your current carrier account

Step 3: Wait for confirmation  

We’ll notify you once your transfer is complete via email, the SmartLess Mobile app, or MyAccount. 

  • Most mobile numbers transfer within minutes to a few hours. 

  • Landline numbers may take up to 5 business days. 

Step 4: Start using your new SmartLess Mobile service 

Once your number is active, you’re ready to enjoy your new SmartLess Mobile plan! 

Checking eligibility with the Number Transfer Tool 

The Number Transfer Check Tool helps confirm whether your number can be transferred: 

  • Enter your phone number to check eligibility 

  • Most U.S. numbers are eligible 

  • Some areas (such as Alaska) and non-U.S. numbers are not eligible 

  • If your number isn’t eligible, you can start with a new SmartLess Mobile number 

Resubmitting a number transfer request 

If your number transfer didn’t go through (perhaps the PIN was entered incorrectly, or there was mismatched account information), you can resubmit. But first, confirm that your number transfer details are correct – you may need to contact the carrier you’re transferring from to confirm that you have the correct information needed to transfer your number.  

To resubmit 

  1. Log in to the SmartLess Mobile app or MyAccount 

  1. Complete verification using the code sent to your email or phone 

  1. On the dashboard, look for the Number Transfer error notification and select Update/Resubmit Transfer Request

If you have multiple lines: 

  • Use the dropdown beside the name and number near the top of the page. 

  • Select the line showing Number Transfer failed

  • Select Update/Resubmit Transfer Request

  1. Enter the updated information from your current carrier: 

  • Phone number (must still be active) 

  • Number Transfer PIN  

  • Account number  

  • Billing address  

  1. Click Submit request

Your transfer will be processed again, and we’ll notify you as soon as it’s complete. 


Frequently asked questions 

How do I find my Number Transfer PIN or account number? 

  • Each carrier is different. This information is usually available in your carrier’s online account or through their support team. Our A–Z Carrier List provides detailed guidance. 

Can I sign up now and transfer my number later? 

  • No. Transfers must be completed during activation. If you already activated with a new number, you’ll need to purchase a new plan to bring your old number over. 

How long does a transfer take? 

  • Mobile numbers: a few minutes to a few hours 

  • Landlines: up to 5 business days
