Transferring your number to SmartLess Mobile

Want to keep your number? Here's how to bring your existing phone number over to SmartLess Mobile. This process is called number porting—or simply “transferring” your number. However you want to say it, we’ve got you.

When to transfer your number

If you're planning to transfer your number, it’s important to know that you’ll need to do this during activation of your SmartLess Mobile plan. Once you’ve activated, you can’t transfer your number later—so don’t skip this step!

How to transfer (port) your number

Step 1: Purchase a SmartLess Mobile plan

  • Check out our plans and select the one that’s right for you

  • You’ll have to wait for your SIM card to be delivered, but if you’ve selected an eSIM, you can activate it right away

Step 2: When you’re activating your plan, choose “Transfer my number”

When you’re activating your plan, you’ll see an option to “Transfer my number”

  • Enter your number transfer details from your current carrier:

  • Phone number – Must still be active

  • Number transfer PIN – Sometimes called a “port-out PIN” (this usually different from your account PIN)

  • Account number – Usually found on your bill or online account

  • Address details– The one linked to your current account

Need help finding this info? Check out our A-Z Carrier List step-by-step instructions by carrier.

Note: This is the only time you can transfer your number to SmartLess Mobile. After activation, you cannot transfer a number from another carrier to an existing SmartLess Mobile plan. If you’ve already activated with a new number, you’ll need to activate a new plan to bring your old number over.

Step 3: Wait for confirmation

  • We’ll let you know once your number has successfully transferred – check your email or log into MyAccount on our website or in the SmartLess Mobile app

  • Most mobile numbers transfer within a few minutes to a few hours

  • Landline numbers can take up to 5 business days

Step 4: Cancel your old service

  • Once you're up and running on SmartLess Mobile, make sure your account is cancelled with your previous carrier—unless they do it automatically.

How to resubmit a number transfer request

If your number transfer didn’t go through (maybe it was a wrong PIN or some mismatched account information), you can try again. But first, confirm that your number transfer details are correct – you may need to contact the carrier you’re transferring from.

Here’s how:

  1. Log into MyAccount or open the SmartLess Mobile app

  1. On the Dashboard, look for a notification showing why the transfer didn’t complete

  • If you have multiple lines, you may have to pick from the dropdown beside the name and number near the top of the page, or select “Manage member plans” find it.

  1. Click Update/resubmit transfer request

  1. Enter the updated info from the carrier you’re transferring your number from:

  • Phone number (must still be active)

  • Number transfer PIN from previous carrier

  • Account number from previous carrier

  • Address details

  1. Click Submit request

  2.  Wait for confirmation

  • We’ll let you know once your number has successfully transferred – check your email or log into MyAccount on our website or in the SmartLess Mobile app

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a Number Transfer PIN or find my account number?

Each carrier is different. You’ll usually find instructions in your account settings or by contacting their support. Use our A–Z Carrier List for detailed help.

What if I entered the wrong PIN or account number?

It happens! If your transfer failed because the PIN or account number was wrong, you’ll need to confirm the information with the carrier you’re transferring from. Once you’ve got it, log back into your SmartLess Mobile MyAccount on our website or on the app, and follow the instructions above to re-submit your number transfer request.

Can I sign up now and transfer my number later?

No. If you want to bring your number to SmartLess Mobile, you’ll need to transfer it during signup.

If you’ve already signed up and activated a new number, but now want to bring your old number over, you can purchase a new plan and transfer your number to that one instead.
