Troubleshooting Voicemail and Visual Voicemail

Reset Call Forwarding settings

If you’ve made changes to your Call Forwarding settings, you can dial ##004# to quickly reset them to the default settings – this will point unanswered calls back to Voicemail.

Call Voicemail directly

If the typical method of checking your Voicemail – pressing and holding “1” – isn’t working, try dialing the Voicemail number directly: 1-805-MESSAGE (that’s 1-805-637-7243).

Accessing Voicemail and Visual Voicemail when traveling

When you’re abroad, checking your Voicemail counts as a call, but Visual Voicemail requires a data connection to download your messages. If you are unable to connect your Voicemail call, or don’t have the roaming data required for Visual Voicemail, you may need to purchase a Travel Pass. Have access to WiFi? Try out WiFi Calling and save on roaming calls to Voicemail.

Forgot your Voicemail PIN?  No sweat, here are a few ways to change it.

  1. Choose your new PIN and confirm it

Android and iPhone (alternate method)

  1. Press and hold 1 to Voicemail

  1. Follow the menu options to choose a new Voicemail PIN

OR

  1. Dial #793# from your SmartLess Mobile phone

  1. You’ll get an SMS with your new Voicemail PIN

Visual Voicemail issues

If you’re having issues receiving or managing Visual Voicemail messages, run through the checklist below.

Use the default methods for Visual Voicemail

For iPhones, we recommend relying on the native iOS Visual Voicemail functionality

For Android phones, make sure you have the latest version of the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app. If it’s already on your device, try syncing the inbox to refresh and load any new messages.

Using other voicemail apps may interfere with the delivery of Visual Voicemail messages.

Check device storage

Since Visual Voicemail downloads and saves Voicemail messages to your phone, new messages may not download if your phone’s storage is running low.

Check battery and data settings

Visual Voicemail will still work on an iPhone with low battery, as long as the phone is powered on and has a data or WiFi connection. However, if your battery is critically low, the phone may disable background processes or enter Low Power Mode, which could delay notifications or syncing temporarily. Once the battery is charged or the phone is plugged in, everything should resume normally

Clear T-Mobile Visual Voicemail (Android) app cache and app data

  1. Settings

  1. Apps

  1. T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app

  1. Storage

  1. Clear data and cache

Clearing the data deletes any messages over a month old and any messages saved only in the Visual Voicemail app. To save messages or send as email, use the steps on the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app page. Uninstall downloaded battery-saver apps, as some can conflict with voicemail.
